Deeds and Misdeeds have now been defined.
The first definition is about following the procedures in the scriptures in exact manner.
For example scriptures spell out time, posture, where to face, what should be recited for some activity and that activity must be performed in exactly the same way. Islam specifies conditions for Namaz. Hindu specifies conditions for Sandhya and many other rituals.
The first problem is exactness. It is very difficult to do everything exactly as per procedures. If not done in accordance with procedures it creates problem for the doer.
Hindu describes one such instance. The story is there was a demon Vritrasur. He wanted to defeat Indra - King of heaven. He caught hold of some Performer Brahmins and asked them to perform a fire sacrifice. The hymn was 'The power of enemy of Indra should increase'. Every hymn has intonation. Different intonation give different meaning to the Hymn. We also use same word with different intonation to express different feelings. Performers knew this and changed the intonation of the hymn which then meant that Power of Indra should increase. Demon wasn't aware of this tactical change. Sacrifice was over. He got the assurance that he would get what he demanded.
Demon then attacked Indra but to his dismay he was defeated. When he was on the verge of dyeing he said, 'O! God you have done injustice with me.' He received the reply 'Your hymn meant this effect!' Thus a small deviation from the procedure destroyed the doer.
Second problem is the outcome. The outcome is just heaven which we know is full of all psychological problem of greed, anger, jealousy etc and it is a short-lived enjoyment and on return human form is also lost.
Following the diktats of scriptures is similar to following the laws of any country. If any of the law is not followed there is a punishment associated. Therefore ALL laws in the scriptures need to be practiced without any laxity. In addition, law expects different behavior depending on situation.
For example - To speak truth is a deed and to speak lie is a misdeed. But for some situations this rule is reversed. There is one such story. Once few robbers were chasing a person. He was running here and there to save himself. He found a cottage of a hermit and hid behind a wall inside the cottage. Robbers reached to the cottage in search of their pray and asked hermit if he saw any person on the run. Hermit replied yes and pointed to the place where that person was hiding. Robbers killed that person and took away valuables. Hermit had to suffer in hell for speaking truth because his truth triggered a crime.
